The Rooms

Our venue chart ranks rooms by how fast their own following is moving, which is a measure that favours the new and cannot see the established. This index asks the other question: who has been on the stage. Every appearance our registry can date and name, weighted by that artist's MiSFY Score.

HOW IT IS BUILT

A room enters the index when our appearance registry holds three or more distinct artists we score on its stage, dated, at high match confidence, inside the trailing 365 days — and when those dates span at least 45 days. The span rule is what separates a room from a festival: a festival compresses its whole bill into a weekend, a room programmes across a season.

The index value is the mean MiSFY Score of the appearances, not of the artists. A performer booked three times counts three times, because a repeat booking is a programming decision and averaging it away would hide it.

The medium-confidence tier is deliberately left out. It is about a tenth of the ledger, and it is where the false matches live — it had a Korean pop group booked into a 300-capacity club in Cologne. Festival accounts are excluded, and so is any room whose registry entry carries a region ("North", "Sicily") where a city belongs — if we cannot place it on a map we cannot write a dateline for it.

What this is not. It is not a ranking of programming quality, and it is not a census of what these rooms booked. It is a ranking of what we could match. A room's position moves when our coverage moves, and small rosters carry large averages: five artists can produce a figure that reads like a survey and is not one. Read it beside the appearance counts, never alone.
